Bankes Arms, Studland

A large white plate features a classic Ploughman’s lunch. It includes a wedge of cheddar cheese, a crusty whole grain bread roll, and a fresh apple. A colorful salad of lettuce, tomato, cucumber, and bell peppers is on the side, along with a small cup of chutney, a pickled onion, and butter. The dish is bright and vibrant, with a balance of fresh produce and hearty components.

The Food

2 – Pickled Onion. Just wow, for the wrong reasons – it was pickled in battery acid, and just about dissolved my tongue. It did have a crunch, though.

3 – Pickle. This too dissolved everything it touched, perhaps that’s why it was served in an asbestos cup.  I hate those paper cups, just put it on the plate.

8 – Cheese / Ham. The cheese was nice, Good quantity, smooth and tasty.  Very nice.

7 – Bread. The bread was certainly suitable.  Perhaps a par-bake, but robust, with good texture, filling and full of lovely flavour

4 – Spread. Butter,  In a packet, but it was good, and a spreadable temperature.

2 – Presentation. The presentation was distinctly average – neither rustic nor stylish, but just sent out.

3 – Salad. The salad was fresh and crisp, but far too much pepper, which is odd considering the price of it. It would have been better to invest the money in the Onion.

1 – Originality. No originality at all. This seems a bit harsh, but that’s the way it is.

Beverages

6 – Tea.  An average cuppa with a bag, but the water is not hot enough as usual.  Get a kettle!

The venue

6 – Service.  The service was good.  Polite & efficient staff.  Only tied by the strictures of the management – so 10  for the staff, but dragged down by the corporate conveyor belt service style.

8 – Atmosphere.  The atmosphere was very good, a lovely place.

5 – Location. Stunning location.

5 – Toilets. Spot on!
