The Food

10 – Pickled Onion. Pickled Shallots, Crunchy, lovely flavour, not acidic. Wonderful.

10 – Pickle. Probably artisan, soft, full flavoured,  not acidic. Wonderful.

8 – Cheese / Ham. Mature cheddar, lovely flavour, a good quantity, not stingy, but could have been more generous.

2 – Bread. The bread let this dish down.  Soft, fluffy, dryish and lacking substance.  A real shame…..

4 – Spread packet butter, hard, but good quality. Could be a 3, but it was mostly let down by the bread, a rustic bread would have coped with the butter.

5 – Presentation. Presentation was perfection!

5 – Salad, etc. The salad was fantastic.

4 – Originality. This scores well on originality for the salad, and to boost the marks for the pickled shallot and the tracklements.

Beverages

8 – Drinks. I had tea. Good quantity, pot poured well. Good quantity of milk  Could have been more flavorsome, suspect water from machine not hot enough for good tea.

The Venue

7 – Service. Service was tip top.  For the place, it was 100%, but it was counter service not table, but I am sad to drop the two points for this, as service was faultless and speedy. Especially impressive considering the popularity of the place.  Was a long queue to be served, but that was perhaps due to the stunning weather.

8 – Atmosphere. Top notch atmosphere, for what is either a casual restarant, or a posh cafe.  If this place is the future, then, then I look forward to the future.

4 – Location. Top location, easy parking, beautiful countryside.

4 – Toilets. Toilets were top quality!

The image shows a classic cream tea setup, likely from a café. On a plate labeled "Salt and Malt," there are two halves of a scone. One half is topped with a generous amount of clotted cream, and the other with both clotted cream and a thick layer of bright red strawberry jam. Next to the scone is a small bowl containing more jam, with a knife resting across it. Sunlight is streaming across the table, highlighting the rich textures of the scone and toppings, creating a warm and inviting scene for an afternoon tea.
