A plate featuring a traditional Ploughman’s lunch includes thick slices of fresh baguette, two types of cheese (Brie and Cheddar), a small pot of chutney, a pickled onion, a salad of mixed greens, tomato, cucumber, onion, and peppers, along with a portion of butter. A fork and knife are placed on the side of the plate. The setting is outdoors on a wooden table, basking in sunlight.

The Food

6 – Pickled Onion. A little sharp for my tastes, but worked well. Crisp.

6 – Pickle. Pickle was quite sharp too, but still worked in this combo.

10 – Cheese / Ham. A generous, but far from excessive lump of beautiful Cheddar and a lovely piece of Brie.

8 – Bread. The bread was really good.

4 – Spread (better be butter or a choice). Packet butter. Nice and soft.

5 – Presentation. A classic ploughman’s well-presented. Very nice.

4 – Salad, etc. Fresh, Crisp, tasty.

2 – Originality. It seems a bit mean to accuse it of no originality because it was lovely to eat, beautiful to look at, and prepared by volunteers (I really want to give it 5 just for the love put into it).

A vibrant outdoor setting featuring a traditional Ploughman’s lunch on a white plate. The meal includes two large slices of fresh baguette, a wedge of Brie, a slice of Cheddar, a small pot of chutney, a pickled onion, and a colorful salad of mixed greens, peppers, onions, cucumber, and tomato. A napkin-wrapped fork and knife rest beside the salad. In the background, a green tray holds a white teapot, a cup of tea with milk, a small milk jug, and sugar packets, highlighting a classic afternoon tea experience. The wooden table is bathed in sunlight, suggesting a pleasant, leisurely meal outdoors.

Beverages

9 – Tea.  Near perfection.  A touch more milk, and a bowl of sugar would have scored 10!

Drinks Total: 9

The venue

7 – Service. Order in the cafe, and it is brought to you. Service was a tad random, but it was friendly, and everything was delivered in good order.  Once again I feel a bit mean giving 7 not 8, as it is volunteers working here, and they do a fantastic job – but if it was a pub, it might have been a 6.

10 – Atmosphere – lovely little cafe. I sat outside and ate in the sunshine looking across Wilton Water & the Wiltshire countryside on a beautiful summer day.  For that, it should have 20 out of 10!

5 – Location – as above, a rural idyl. I want to give it more than 5.

Toilets. Very clean and functional.  7 out of 10 would be better…..
