Tea Rooms at Worth Matravers

This image shows a traditional Ploughman’s lunch served on a rectangular floral-patterned plate. The meal includes slices of thick-cut pink ham, coleslaw with visible shredded vegetables, and a small mound of crispy potato chips or crisps. Accompanying these is a mixed salad of fresh greens, cucumber, and beetroot, with a drizzle of salad dressing placed in a small glass container. There is also a serving of bright yellow pickles, likely piccalilli, and a dark chutney in a tiny glass jar. The plate features two slices of buttered wholegrain bread. The arrangement is tidy, with distinct sections for each component, and the colorful ingredients stand out against the white plate, evoking a rustic yet appealing meal presentation

The Food

10 – Pickled Onion

Well, there wasn’t one – but to be fair, I am cheating here, it didn’t claim to be a ploughman’s! Anyway – Caperberries – so 10/10 for originality and wow.

10 – Pickle
Homemade pickle that was just wow! Seriously, it was just perfect.

9 – Cheese / Ham

I feel a bit mean giving it a 9, but there was no cheese, and, well, you can’t give 100% or you would have to give up searching for a great ploughman’s lunch if you had found the best. The ham was home-cooked, high quality, generous, and delicious.

10 – Bread
Just tip top. Look at it – you want it!

5 – Spread (better be butter or a choice)

Butter, perfect temperature, local, fantastic taste.

5 – Presentation
Beautifully presented – just look at the china.

5 – Salad, etc.
Fresh, tasty, nice dressing.

4 – Originality
Very original. Alas, the originality of no cheese drops a point. Look this is going to be a short blog post!

The Venue

8 – Service

OK, now I do feel mean for giving an 8. We wandered in without a booking on a Sunday lunch, and they fit us in. I’m not complaining about the wait, it was entirely reasonable, and not that long.

10 – Atmosphere
Beautiful in every respect. Perfect English tea room, completely Dorset. Chocolate box stuff. Amazing. Seriously.

5 – Location
Come on – it’s picture postcard territory.

5 – Toilets
The loos are amazing. It’s in the garden and from another century, the age of elegance. It’s worth booking supper just to see the loo.
